Angelline walked through the park again, but this time she had a purpose unlike last time. She laughed remembering how she had unknowingly ditched school. Well at least mom enlightened me to my mistake. Enlightening was an hour long lecture on the importance of school and grades. Rolling her eyes she continued walking until she spotted the familiar bench. Taking a seat she sighed and looked around at the dying activity of Rowan Park.
The sun was half way to the horizon, much like yesterday, but it still provided enough light to clearly see everything. Children played hide and seek as parents watched from nearby benches. Teenagers strolled around laughing and gossiping. Probably talking about the stir Ace and I caused today, she thought with a smirk. At the mention of Ace in her thoughts she checked her watch. It was five pm exactly. Angelline was a bit surprised at how she had actually made it on time. She was notorious for being late to meetings and functions within her family and friend circle. She shook her head and lay back on the bench closing her eyes. She hadn’t taken a nap when she reached home, instead she had used all her pent up energy to train the new mares and rode on Shadow, her personal black stallion, for over an hour. I’m sure I’ll be awake by the time he gets here. With that thought she dozed off into a light nap.

Ace strolled into the park rather fast. He was late. 5:05. shoot, I’m 5 minutes late, He said, silently cursing himself for oversleeping. Trying to remember where they had sat just 24 hours ago, Ace passed by many teenagers that had seen the drama unfold at the school. Most high-fived him, some gave him the occasional “good job”, and others didn’t acknowledge him at all, possibly because he and Angel were the new talk of the town, making them more popular than they were. Ace looked up and noticed there were clouds in the sky, draping it, giving it such a pleasant look that if mixed with Angel’s beauty, would be priceless. Shrugging the thoughts away, he noticed he was ever the closer to their previous bench than before.
He spotted Angelline almost 200 feet away. He could tell it was her even if he was blind. There was no mistaking it, Ace told himself. Walking closer, he noticed she was sleeping. With a smirk, he thought that it was practically déjà vu, since the last time they met, she was doing the same thing. She looked a bit tired, which explained the state she was in. “Bonjour, Mon ami,” Ace said, in a raised voice, only to startle her out of her sleep, and not waiting for her response, he dropped to his knees, eye level to her.

Angelline was having a pleasant dream for once when she heard a familiar voice through the dark veil of sleep. ”Bonjour, Mon ami,” Startled from sleep she shot up blinking her eyes to clear the spots from her vision and saw Ace’s face in front of her. Feeling the same déjà vu he had just felt she laughed, tilting her head to the side a bit.
“Bonjour, but I think in our situation it would be mon amour, but mon ami is just fine,” she said. Leaning back in the seat once more she checked her watch to see the time. 5:07, not bad. I would’ve been much later. she thought with some embarrassment. “So how was your day after the whole incident at school?” she asked.

“Amour would mean love, right?,” Ace asked, tilting his head as well, “And wake up, you’re always sleeping. I don’t know how I fell in love with you.” Looking her in the eyes, he noticed something. No matter how many times he looked at them, those golden orbs would always transport him away from reality and put him in a daze. That happened each time he looked at her eyes, and it happened this time too. Trying his hardest to break out of the spell they lured him in, Ace violently twitched. It worked, but he hoped it hadn’t startled Angel.
Putting his head on her lap, still bending over, on the ground, he watched a married couple stroll along with a baby stroller. Ace couldn’t help but smile, and he knew that Angel must have been doing the same. She had to have been doing the same, he thought to himself. She has to be doing the same. Of course she was doing the same, after all, Ace did love her, and would love her more if she was doing the same. She had asked him a question, but he forgot what the question was and decided not to elaborate on it.

“Yes, amour means love. And I have a reason to be tired this time. I was up all afternoon training the mares and riding,” Angelline said with a small laugh. She noticed him staring intently into her eyes and wondered why he seemed to do that so often. True it was one of the traits that had attracted her to him. He always listened to her and noticed the small things. Taking the time to search his brown eyes she saw a swirl of emotions. He seemed a bit dazed as she examined him and she was a bit startled when she saw him twitch but she shrugged it off.
Angelline sighed as he placed his head in her lap and one hand strayed to stroke the soft locks of hair. “You know you might be more comfortable on the bench Ace.” As she ran her hands through his hair she noticed a married couple stroll by with a baby stroller and smiled. I wonder how they met, she thought. As she drifted through her thoughts her eyes clouded over and she became a bit unseeing, because of this she didn’t see the couple look their way and smile.

“You could have called me. I know a thing or two about horses as well.” Ace said, with his head still on her lap. He hoped she didn’t mind, but then again, he suspected that she had wanted him to do something like this. And on top of that, the seat was too comfortable, and he was too lazy, to move at that point of time. Suddenly, something bright struck his eyes, and he looked over to see what caused it. It was the little boy in the stroller, possibly holding his mom’s mirror. The flash of bright light reminded Ace of Angel’s wonderfully golden filled eyes. “Ya know, you have the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen. Each time I look at them, I get lost in a world that’s completely unknown to everyone, including me. That’s why I love them so much. That’s why I love you so much. They’re filled with so much kindness that I cant help but think you love me as much too.”
After hearing her comment, he thought he did do something wrong by putting his head on her lap. Maybe she thought it was heavy. He was sure his head wasn’t that big, but still, she didn’t seem all the delicate. “You know what, not even god could make me more comfortable than I’m feeling right now,” he said, lazily, almost wanting to fall asleep on her lap.

“Ace, I don’t have your number remember,” Angelline said laughing. She stopped stroking his hair for a second as a bright flash of light brought her back to her surroundings. Looking over she saw the little boy in the stroller playing with a small hand mirror. The light reflected from the mirror straight into her eyes making her wince a bit. She opened her eyes when she heard Ace’s words and a smile touched her lips. “Thank you Ace. It’s always been a dream of mine to take someone else to another world. You’ve fulfilled my dream unknowingly and you’ve given me a love I’ve only heard about in dreams. Thank you,” she whispered.
The smile widened at his second comment and she couldn’t resist her impulses anymore. Leaning over she leaned her head on his and placed a kiss on his head. “That’s why you’re not resting on God’s lap right now Ace. You’re resting on an angel’s as you say so often,” she said with a small chuckle as she placed her head on the side of his resting her cheek on his. "I'm just glad you're comfortable."

Ace laughed, “Yeah, that would be a small setback.” He made a mental note to get her number, so if he ever missed her, he knew she was a phone call away. He knew he was going to be calling her a lot whenever he did get her phone number. He made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t call as much as he wanted to, as to not freak her out. “No, Angel, you’ve fulfilled my dreams. Just by talking to me a mere 24 hours ago, you are the gift I’m sure god has sent to me, and I’m sure he sent you to the right person….I think,” He said, playfully, but at the same time, dead serious.
“I really do hope you’re comfortable, what with, all that bending you have to do just because I put this heavy head on your lap. I just hope you’re comfortable, if you’re not, I can lay down on the ground. Oh, and thanks for the kiss, I hope I can make it up somehow,” He said, as he cherished the feel of her cheek against his, capturing and storing in his heart forever. He knew that she must be feeling the same way as him right about now. She had to have been, his words were true, his heart was true. Hopefully she was having no doubts.

“If you give me your number then I’ll call you,” Angelline whispered since she was so close to his ear. “Your phone will never stop ringing,” she joked. As she listened to him talk she let another smile show, but he couldn’t see it. Instead she nuzzled his cheek a bit to show how touched she was. “You’re such a flatterer. Maybe I should ask God to take away your skill for flirtation. Maybe then I won’t have to beat the girl’s away with a stick…or maybe I should ask him to take away your godly looks,” she said with a small laugh.
“I’m perfectly comfortable. Never been more comfortable in my life in fact. And trust me your head is not as heavy as Shadow’s. That boy has one heavy head,” Angelline said wondering if he would know that Shadow was her stallion. “And I’m sure you’ll think of something to make up for the kiss, and I’ll be waiting.” She was touched by his words. And the heart that she had thought broken healed in that instant from his miraculous words.

Ace raised a eyebrow, though he doubted she could see it, “I doubt that, because if I called you, I would never hang up.” Ace liked her sense of humor. It was funny, and the same time, serious. He wondered how she could manage it. He felt her nuzzle, and returned the favor before responding to what she said afterwards. “I don’t care if god took away both my flirting skills and my looks. Just as long as doesn’t take my Angel,“ Ace nuzzled her cheek again before continuing, “No pun intended, by the way.”
“Shadow..? Your brother or your horse something, right?” asked Ace, innocently jealous. A pit formed in his stomach, but he had heard that name before, so somehow he caused the pit to close up as he knew it was nothing more than a misunderstanding. “And yes, I will make up for that kiss. Maybe with another kiss, maybe not. You cant really know, can ya?” He asked, hoping to tease her.

“Well then we’ll just have to call each other and see who hangs up first now won’t we,” she said. Angelline sighed in contentment as he nuzzled her and she laughed a bit at the slightly ticklish feel of his hair on her cheek. “Good I’ll start praying when I get home. Then I’ll feel much more at ease when you’re around other girls,” she teased.
“And yes Shadow is my horse. You’re so cute when you’re jealous,” she whispered giving him another kiss on the cheek before she leaned back in the bench. Her spine crackled a bit in protest at the sudden movement and she bit off a groan as she heard the slight cracking of her bones. “One of these days I’ll find out Ace. But then again it’s better to keep things a mystery…at least some things,” she said closing her eyes as she moved her right hand back to entangle in his hair.

Yeah, thought I doubt I’d be the first one to hang up,” Ace said, playfully. Ace heard her sigh , and laugh as he nuzzled her. “Well I can determine you’re laughing because of my manly facial hair. Well, I’m a man, so deal with it,” He said, coldly. Shortly after, he decided he couldn’t hold in the laughter and commented, “I’m just kidding. And thanks a lot, I feel better now that I know you’re praying that I become ugly and un-interesting.,” He teased. He loved messing with her, as he pointed out before. For some reason, it was so easy to get her jealous. The same went for him.
“Me? Jealous? Never. Because I know you’d never cheat on me, but I am jealous of one thing,” Ace said, turning his head around, and whispering into her ear, “You spent time with him when you weren’t with me.” After saying that, he blew into her ear. He knew that most people would find it ticklish when things like that happen, and he couldn’t wait to find out if Angel was one of those people.
As she got up, he heard a crack. Sitting up immediately, he asked, “Hey, are you okay? Are you?” He was consistent, but right now, what else could he be other than worried? He heard a crack, and hopefully it was just one of those small everyday “crack your finger” type of cracks, and nothing serious. “

Angelline laughed at his first comment, but stiffened at his cold tone when he talked the second time. She only relaxed when he laugh. “Remember I’m praying for your sake…but it’s more for mines.” She chuckled stretching a bit to get the kinks out of her back. She knew she got jealous easily, she had found that out when Damien had gotten a girl-friend and spent more time with her than Angelline. When she confronted Damien about it he only laughed at her, but he ended up spending more time with his little sister.
“Me? Jealous? Never. Because I know you’d never cheat on me, but I am jealous of one thing… You spent time with him when you weren’t with me.” Angelline swore she felt her heart stop beating. She knew she stopped breathing for a few seconds and when she did start breathing again it was a bit unsteady. But she let out a squeak of surprise when he blew into her ear. Smacking Ace lightly on the head she shook her head trying to get the tingles out of her system, starting with her head. “I swear sometimes you remind me of an overgrown child,” she joked.
When he stood up Angelline was a bit confused. She thought she had hit him a bit harder than she had meant to, but she only chuckled when she found out he was worried. “I’m fine. It’s just when one bends over too much they do tend to get a few kinks in their spine,” she said stretching to prove her point. “But don’t worry. It’s my fault for trying my limits.”

Ace saw that his joke had went to plan. If he hadn’t had laughed, he could have sworn Angel would have gotten sad. Or would she not have? He didn’t know her that well, but he was willing to bet on it. She drifted off again, in her own little world, as she became unresponsive after her other comment. He didn’t want to comment back on it, considering that it was one of those things that didn’t really need a answer. At least, when she was in her own little world, Ace got to look at her more closely, which he probably wouldn’t have if she wasn’t, to avoid appearing creepy. Her beautiful golden eyes matched her skin just perfectly, as her hair added a unique touch of beauty to her. Or so it appeared to him.
“Ow!,” Ace exclaimed, grabbing his head to elaborate. He was just kidding however he did notice that she actually did zone off that time. He noticed she had stopped breathing, but why? Was she thinking about something he said? No, she couldn’t be. But then again, Ace did worry too much, and he needed to stop that. Why couldn’t he be more like his Dreamer at times, he often said to himself at times. He didn’t care though, sometimes worrying was a good thing, but to keep the good mood they were having, he decided not to question her about it.
“Oh….ok. Don’t do it again, you almost killed me.” Ace said, pretending to be serious. Getting up just a little bit so he could do what he wanted, “I love you,” he whispered, as he kissed her on her forehead. He pictured that moment playing over and over in his mind countless times.

Angelline rolled her eyes as she noticed him examining her out of the corner of her eye. Boys she thought. Sometimes they were so transparent it was disgusting. And other times they could be like an Escher room. Full of endless twists and turns with dead ends everywhere you turned.
When he let out an exclamation of pain she jumped a bit in her seat worrying that maybe she really did hit him to hard. Laughing at his exaggerated statement she waved her hands in front of her in the universal sign for forgiveness. “I’m sorry. I just couldn’t resist.” When he kissed her on the forehead and whispered I love you an unwanted memory lanced through her mind.
No one will ever love you. The only thing they will love is your money. Not you. You’re an unwanted child. So just die already.
The words of her tormentor for those hell like weeks pierced her heart and she couldn’t help the flow of cold words that fell from her mouth. “Ace I just realized I don’t like you saying that. Who was I kidding. We hardly know each other, we can’t say we like each other, I mean who knows. Maybe all we feel is a superficial attraction that will break under the slightest touch. The scene at the cafeteria proved my point,” she said in a monotone voice. Her eyes turned cold. Like the fire that had previously played in them had been extinguished under a layer of ice.
Standing from the bench she turned her back to him. “We know nothing of what love is like. I cannot accept a superficial feeling. I just can’t.”
