Ace sat on the bench, underneath a Rowan tree, deep in thought. He was wearing a track jacket and jeans. The weather was windy, so the jacket was just perfect. A tear escaped his eyes. How could he have been doing this? He had become the person he swore he would have never become. He was playing with girl’s feelings now, the ultimate sin in his mind. Or well, it used to be. Ever since meeting Angelline, and kissing Ariella, he started to worship that sin, making him a sinner. How could he be doing this? It made no sense. First there was Angelline, the girl he could have swore he had fallen in love with, and then there was Ariella, the one he wanted. Not wanted as in loved, but wanted as …in lust. It was a sin, and he could not take it anymore. Maybe he should just kill himself and be done with it. Or rather, he should go to the girls and apologize to them and leave this town forever, and start a new life. He decided on the latter.
But how? How could he just apologize to them and then leave? No, he couldn’t do that either. He was stuck, he had to repent. But no, he couldn’t see either of them angry at him. Maybe he should just leave, and not come back, leaving this town forever. Yes, that was the smart plan. He would call the real estate agent, and tell him to sell his house for whatever price anyone offered. He didn’t care about money, he cared about people, and in his mind, leaving this town was the smart idea. But then he would be something else…..someone else. Ace stifled a whine, as tears flooded out his eyes. He didn’t bother to wipe them, leaving his hands in the side pockets of his jacket. He was going to leave town, and today was the last day. It was still early morning, so no one would notice if he just got up and left, not even Angelline or Ariella.
He looked around at the surroundings, recounting the good moments that had occurred to them. In the very bench he was sitting down, he had first met Angelline a while back. The school, where he had first kissed her. Olive garden, where he apologized to Ariella. And many countless other memories, and all of them seemed to bring on a fresh ound of tears. He couldn’t leave this place, he told himself when he first moved in, but now only a short while later, he was leaving. He was leaving because he wasn’t safe anymore, he wasn’t himself. He needed time to think, he needed time to change. He would be back, he decided, no matter what. He was going to tell the girls the truth one day, but not now. But then…when?
Maybe never, but who cares now? He was a quitter and a sinner, nothing else. Nobody cared about people like him. It didn’t matter if he was hung on the very same tree he was being sheltered from the sun by, no, no one cared. No one at all. Maybe not even Angelline, maybe not even Ariella. It didn’t matter now, he distanced himself from there. He was leaving, he told himself one last time. It was over for his fresh beginning, he needed one more chance. He cried some more.
And as he got up, he walked off into the distance, leaving the park. Taking one look back, he sighed. Showing a faint smile, he continued to walk. Upon leaving town, he left a letter at school, explaining why he was leaving and to make the announcement at school the following day during class. A hundred dollar bill helped settle that deal.
Touching his motorcycle gas tank, he smiled. "Atleast I have you, friend....thank you." Starting up his motorcycle he sped off into the distance. And so he left, with only one thought: I will be back
