Lesson One
How to RP
When RPing there are three things you should always state is the first post of a thread: what time of day it is, what the weather is like, and where your character is. This can be done in several ways. For example you could say "Sarah was standing under a beautiful starry sky." This tells us that it is nigh, is fairly clear, and that the person is standing. You can also say "Sarah was standing. The sky was clear and lots of beautiful stars were out." This sentence tells us the same thing as the sentence that came before it, but it is more choppy.
When RPing, you want your words and sentences to flow smoothly, so the reader doesn't get confused or bored with what's going on. You also want to be comfortable with your writing style. Don't throw in too many prepositions and adverbs if you yourself get confused while reading it. Chances are if you're confused, then the reader will be as well.
The next and most important part to being a good RPer is the amount you post. I know it can be a little difficult when you have writers' block, but each post should at the very least be one paragraph long. That's five sentences. Here at Shattered Dreams, we do not require you to post a certain amount, but posting one paragraph helps to keep your readers interested in what's going on. It also gives the next poster something to work with. If you just say "She kissed him," then doesn't really help the next poster think of a reply. You want to try to be creative when RPing. It makes things much easier for everyone involved.
Spelling and grammar are very important when RPing. You always want to check your spelling. We have a nifty spell check button. Just click it and a spell check will pop up. You still want to reread your post even after you have spell checked it. The spell checker could have missed a word or typo, like if you put "off" instead of "of." The spell checker won't realize this mistake. You also want to be sure to use the correct punctuation. I know it can be difficult to remember where commas and the like go, but remember that commas are pauses. It may help to say a sentence aloud if you're not sure if a comma goes there.
I don't mean to pester anyone, but in order to make sure you understood the lesson, I would like you to please post at least one paragraph of you RPing as your character. Please RP as if it was the first post in a thread.
