Abby walked into the school with her book bag over one shoulder, filled with her textbooks and binders and pencils and whatnot that she would need for the day. Nearly all of her things were hand-me-downs from the older kids at the orphanage, the only thing that was actually her own was the shirt she was wearing, and the bag she held her books in. All of her binders she had gotten from an older girl, Lydia, who had drawn on them with pen, hearts and flowers and stuff like that. It didn't matter to Abby though, she was used to this. Nearly everything she had had some flaw or another.
Walking into her first class of the day, gym (her least favorite), she went to the change room and got into her gym clothes, a black t-shirt and black shorts, completing the outfit with black running shoes. Some people tended to call her emo or goth or something because of this, but it was just because they were the only clothes she had been able to get around the orphanage, and she was lucky enough already that they even matched. It was better than what she had last year, a yellow shirt and red shorts, with green shoes. It had been terrible. Atleast they were all the same colour this year.

Gym. Of all the classes to have first thing in the morning, it had to be gym. And they had to sit in it with the 14 year olds until everyone was marked off on the roll and told to go outside. But it had to be done. Trudging into the large gym, Daren held his stony faced expression. All the little kiddies were doing their thing and all the 17 year olds were picking on him, once again. It was almost as if they had nothing better to do. 'Emo, emo. Go cut yourself.' The words taunted him, making him go into an unpleasent mood.
Making his way into the boys change room, Daren took as little time as possible getting changed. Just an old band t-shirt, old black sweats and, of course, black joggers. Coming out of the change rooms and sitting on one of the benches, Daren looked around boredly, waiting for his name to be called. One of the 14 year olds caught his eye however. A girl, all in black, being picked on like himself. Daren had the sudden urge to yell at the other kids for picking on her, but kept his mouth shut. Just as he turned his head away, a basketball nailed him in the head. "Hey, watch where you throw those things Meatheads!" he yelled at the other boys in his class.

Not having many friends, or any at all, for that matter, Abby sat alone on the bench, managing to completely ignore all of the comments, insults, and various sports balls that were thrown at her. She was used to this, it tended to happen when you were quiet, didn't have any friends, and never talked about where you lived. She barely even minded it any more, although naturally she was only human, and so there was always that one that just annoyed her to the point that she would reply, and one time she had even punched someone. Contrary to what she looked like and acted, she could be very strong if she wanted to.
The teachers came into the gym and stood at the front of the class, calling for everyone to be quiet. Of course, this didn't work. It never had, and it probably never would. So they blew their whistles, the high screeching noise that was made surely shut everyone up. A few people even dropped the balls they were holding to cover their ears with their hands, but Abby wasn't one of these people. First of all she wasn't holding a ball of any sort, and second of all she was also used to this sort of noise. It was amazing what a diverse array of situations you got used to when living in an orphanage.

As the whistles blew, everybody clamped their mouthes shut. Several people from Daren's calss answered to their names as they were called out. Daren would be one of the last to be called since his last name was 'Scholle'. Again Daren's eyes wandered to the girl who sat by herself on the bench with all the other 14 year olds. She was just so interesting to look at. Somebody else like himself.
".... Daren Scholle?" The voice interupted Daren's line of thought. "Here" he halfhfeartedly called. Some of the 14 year olds were laughing and pointing at him. Daren flipped the finger at them, flollowed by a glare. They only broke down laughing at him. Daren rolled his eyes and returned his gaze once again to the outcast girl.

Abby listened silently as they began to cal out the names of the older students, finishing with a boy who was also dressed in black, who she hadn't noticed earlier. Then again, she had been doing her best to not notice anyone, so it wasn't a surprise. She didn't watch him for long, finding other things to keep her attention, like the fact that the teacher was not calling out the names of the younger students.
She was nearly right in the middle, with her last name starting with an 'L'. Speaking of which, her name was called and she called out a soft 'here'. Her voice wasn't very loud, but it was heard, seeing as how you could practically hear a pin drop after that whistle.

When the girl looked at him, Daren kept a steady gaze. He wasn't afraid to look. That's why he was born with eyes, wasn't it? One of the teachers blew a whistle for the older students. Everyone in his class got to their feet and headed outside to play various sports. Daren had chosen the javelin.
Like usual, Daren was the last of his group to leave the gym, javelin in hand. He nearly tripped on his way out, butt caught him with the butt of the javelin. He didn't blush or look around in embarrassment. He just continued on like nothing happened, heading out to the field.

The younger students were doing soccer today, and as the teacher blew the whistle they all rushed to the bin of soccer balls. Abby didn't though, sitting on the bench for a few moments until she got up and walked to the teacher for her class. Living in an orphanage, she couldn't keep anything there without the risk of it being stolen or broken, including her soccer ball, which she had bought for herself with the money she had earned from her job. So she had asked the teacher to take care of it for her, seeing as how she was a gym teacher and everything. Soccer was Abby's favorite sport, and she was really good at it.
The teacher went into her office and brought out the ball, a simple one, with inverted colours. Instead of white with black octagons it was black with white, and it looked really cool. She took it, bowed slightly to thank her, and walked outside, ahead of the rest of the class who were still pushing and shoving to get the 'good' balls from the bin. There weren't any really good balls in the bin, just the ones that weren't completely flat. Anyways, once she got outside she walked over to one of the soccer fields and put the ball on the ground, kicking it around. She kicked it onto the top of her foot, then started to bounce it on her knee, switching legs every once in a while.

Making his to the fields, Daren went to the back of the line of the boys lined up for javelin practice. There were quite a few, but not enough to crowd to area. The first in line took a few small rapid steps forward before taking longer strides, bringing his right arm around in a quick motion. Releasing the javelin when he met arms length, the spear-like object flew through the air in a wide arch before landing on the grass near the meter line. Some of the guys clapped him on the back and congratulated him for getting a good distance.
Before too much longer, it was Daren's turn. Rubbing his hands together to test the grip, he picked up his javelin and took in a deep breath. When he was given the clear, he took a few small quick steps forward before coming out into the large strides of jogging. Bringing his right arm back more so than it already was, Daren brought his right arm forward, propelling the javelin through the air in a high, wide arch. Gaining his posture again, he watched as it landed just beyond the first boy's mark. That would be sure to give him a good grade for physical education.

Finally, the rest of the class came out with their soccer balls, and they were all to line up and kick them across the field to the goal, sort of like a race. The coach counted down from three, then blew her whistle and everyone started. Abby easily led them across the field, the first one there with no mistakes in her footwork. Soccer was practically the only thing she was good at, aside from playing the guitar, so she had practiced a lot to make herself even better. She still sucked like a vacuum at the other sports though.
Speaking of other sports, she glanced over at the boys doing javelin, and noticed the one she had seen earlier. He got quite a good distance - much better than Abby would have gotten, for sure - and she smiled lightly. She found herself wishing she was more athletic, but shook off the thoughts. She was great at soccer, so she should be happy. Best not to be greedy. You couldn't be good at everything, right?

Late for gym class. It wasn't a big deal to Ken, but his mother would blow a fuse when he got home. Looking out to the field, Ken noticed that the boys were already out on the field. One kid had a Javelin, others had hockey sticks.
"Sports...ugh," Ken sighed out loud. The only sport Ken enjoyed was track. He ran down the small hill slowly towards his classmates to check in with the teacher. When he reached the field, Ken took a deep breath. It's nice to finally be outside, he thought to himself, then walked slowly across the track, right through some younger girls playing soccer. It's only proper to get noticed, no matter by what age. As he was almost at his class, he noticed a girl playing with a Soccer ball. She was much better then the rest of her class, but was all alone for some reason. Opportunity, Ken thought to himself, and walked over to her.
"Wow, you've got some serious skills. Are you going to try out for the team?" Ken asked, and smiled. First impressions were all that really mattered.

Abby was pulled from her thoughts when someone spoke to her; a boy who looked like he belonged in the other class. She found herself wondering why he was talking to her, but shrugged it off. It appeared he thought she was a good soccer player. She smiled lightly at the compliment, but for some reason it didn't show in her eyes, which still looked, as usual, melancholy.
"There's a team? I didn't know that. Hm, I suppose I'll try out."
She had her left foot on her soccer ball, to hold it in place and prevent it from rolling away or some such thing as she spoke to him. She didn't know if she was allowed to talk to someone from a different class, but seeing as how she wouldn't learn anything about soccer (she already knew practically everything about it) she might as well. She knew the coach wouldn't get too mad.
"I'm sorry, I forgot my manners. I'm Abby, it's a pleasure to meet you..."
She trailed off, not knowing his name yet. He would probably get that and tell it to her, but if he didn't she could always just ask.

"Kenneth Maxwell, but you can call me Ken. Nice to meet you Abby." Ken smiled and waved. "Why are you by yourself? You could soccer circles around these girls." He was late for class, but who cared... it's gym class. If he was going to get yelled at, big whoop. At least he'd make a new friend.

Ken. Cool. And he wasn't making fun of her in any way, shape, or form. Abby held back a laugh thinking about this. This kid must be new around here, because practically everyone made fun of Abby somehow, for various reasons that she barely even knew. But it didn't bother her anymore. She was too used to it by now. He asked why she was by herself and glanced back at the other girls, most of which were wearing brand new designer gym clothes, had manicures and fancy hair-do's, and were speaking like 'Like, omg, did you see Kyle the other day? He's so totally hott!!'
Here she was with hand-me-down, completely black gym clothes, the same haircut she'd had since she'd grown hair, and if she ever heard herself talk like that, she would probably shoot herself. And he asked her why she was alone? Hmm.. I wonder.
"They're not really the kind of people I hang out with."
She held back a laugh at herself for that comment. Not the kind of people she hung out with? She didn't hang out with anybody.

"Oh yeah. I wouldn't expect you to. They seem kinda....prissy." Ken said, with a little bit of disgust, "Wanna teach me how to play soccer sometime?" Ken asked, as innocently as possible. He wasn't totally interested in Soccer, more interested in getting to know Abby. It was obvious, who cares. It was fun. He'd never met her before. Maybe they could spend some time together, and get her some new clothes. They seemed pretty raggy.

Prissy didn't even begin to describe them, but she just nodded and glanced over at them for a moment, rolling her eyes before turning back to him. He asked her if she could teach him to play soccer some time and she shrugged in reply. She supposed he could learn in class, but the school courses never actually taught very in-depth in any one sport, considering they did such short units on them.
"Sure,"
She replied, picking up her soccer ball as she noticed everyone else in the class do the same. It seemed the teacher was starting to teach them something, and wanted to make sure their balls weren't going to roll around, so she had them hold them. She hadn't noticed Abby talking with the boy yet.
"I'm free tomorrow after school, does that work for you?"
